Skinny Margaritas
I love Mexican cuisine, and that definitely does not exclude margaritas. With that being said most margaritas are super high in sugar (especially the mix), so I’ve come up with some “skinny” alternatives to your favorite cocktail!
While the Margs I’m going to share with you are delicious and have simple ingredients, the key to a good margarita is good liquor!!! Don’t skimp in this department, it will be noticeable…not only in the drink but if you happen to have too many...your headache the next day! I personally like to use blanco tequila when making margaritas, but use whichever you prefer.
1. THE CLASSIC MARGARITA
This is as easy and fresh as it gets folks. This is a “skinny” twist on your classic margarita, sip slowly…these can creep up on you!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2oz Don Julio Tequila - Blanco
- 1/2oz Triple Sec
- 1oz fresh lime juice
- 3/4oz fresh orange or grapefruit juice
- drop of agave nectar or Stevia whichever you prefer
- ice cubes (I like the square and circle ones for cocktails)
INSTUCTIONS:
- Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker…and shake!
- Rim your glass with Stevia.
- Add ice to glass, pour in mix, garnish with lime wedge and serve!
2. THE COCONUT MARGARITA
Next up we have the Coconut Margarita, this is a creamy/refreshing cocktail that’s sure to give you the tropical flavor you’re looking for without the extra calories and fat found in traditional coconut cocktails. This might be the most simple drink to make on the list, so enjoy!
INGREDIENTS:
- 1.5oz coconut milk (from the can)
- 1.5oz Don Julio Tequila – Blanco
- 1/2oz Triple Sec
- 8oz coconut water
- Lime wedge to garnish
- Ice
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add all ingredients into cocktail shaker...shake!
- Rim your glass with Stevia
- Add ice to glass, pour in mix, garnish with lime wedge and serve!
3. THE WATERMELON MARGARITA
This margarita is so refreshing and has just the right amount of sweetness. Perfect for cooling off by the pool on a hot summer day! Because who doesn’t love watermelon?
INGREDIENTS:
- 2oz Don Juilo Tequila – Blanco
- 1/2oz Triple Sec
- 2oz – or 4 Tbsp of fresh lime juice (juice of about 2 large limes)
- 2oz – or 4 Tbsp of fresh orange juice (½-1 large orange)
- 4oz – or 8 Tbsp of fresh watermelon juice
- Dash of Stevia
- Ice
- Lime for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add all ingredients into cocktail shacker…shake!
- Rim your glass with Stevia
- Add ice to glass, pour in mix, garnish with lime and serve!
4. THE JALAPENO GRAPEFRUIT MARGARITA
I like to save the best for last, this margarita hits the mark with it’s sweet and spicy taste..mostly spicy! That extra kick is what makes this cocktail my favorite, goes perfectly with any Mexican dish! For this recipe I find it’s best to mix in bulk instead of making individually to each person. *Makes about 6
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 ½ cups Don Julio Tequila – Blanco
- 2 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
- 3/4c fresh squeezed lime juice
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 2 Tbsp Stevia
- 1-2 whole jalapenos sliced
- Grapefruit slice for garnish
- Ice
- Stevia and fresh cracked pepper, for rimming the glass (don’t skip this step!)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Combine the stevia and pepper mixture, set aside.
- Add all of the ingredients in a large pitcher, be sure to stir completely. Keep refridgerated from anywhere between 30min – 2 hours (the longer you let sit, the spicier the mix will be). You can remove the jalapenos from your drink or serve with them included.
- Rim your glass with the sugar and pepper mix.
- Add ice cubes and pour margarita mix over. Garnish with grapefruit wedge.
